Chocolate!!!!
Feburary 23-24 we got to go on a trip to Brugge Belgium. We were able to leave the 2 older girls with Grandma Greer and we took Brooke with us. We though, no big deal... but she was a handful and bored out of her mind without her sisters around to entertain her. It was still fun to have a special holiday with just her, there were just times we wanted to pull our hair out. :-)
Brugge Belgium is only about 90 miles from where we live if you go the way the crow flys, however the train can't go that way because there are to many lakes between here and there. To get there we had to go all the way around Zealand which means it took a lot longer. Our total train trip there was 3 hours. But still not that bad. We saw some beautiful countryside. Belgium's countryside reminds us a lot of the Netherlands but you can see that they are defiantly a poorer country than the Netherlands. However the EU seems to be doing them good. They had lots of construction going on there trying to update buildings and make things look nicer. The Larger cities were beautiful. It was amazing! Especially the Antwerpen train station. It was like the trainstation was built around this beautiful castle or something. It was beautiful.
The second Picture is of the town Hall. It is so pretty. I guess it was built in 3 different errars so you can see the 3 different styles of archutecture.
The 3rd picture is a castle used to protect the cities important treasures. It had a bell tower at the top and Brian wanted to climb it. All 350 stairs. Not so bad but they were in this tight windy circle stair case that you just had to keep going because there were people behind you and people coming down at you and there was no time to rest as you just went up, up, up. So by time we made it to the top it felt like a really good work out. I was out of breath and my heart was pounding and I was sweating on that cold winter day. But the view from the top was so beautiful. It was worth it to climb to the top and look out. You could see everwhere. The Bells were ringing and playing "hey jude" by the Bettles and Brooke didn't like it so much so after a little bit of being up there she started to scream so we had to go back down. I didn't want to go back down. I was still tired and I wanted to look around. But we didn't have a choice and down we went.
Belgium religiously is mainly Catholic where the Netherlands is mainlyProtestant. Belgium had these huge gorgeous Catholic Churches, that you just don't find here in the Netherlands. I have lots of pictures of huge churches in the slide show.
While in Belgium we had to eat some Belgium waffles which of course came covered in Chocolate and whipped cream and powder sugar. So know you know to have a true Belgium waffle cover it in liquid chocolate put whip cream on top and then dust it with powder sugar.
Belgium is also know for its chocolate so Brian of course had to eat some. He said it was way better then legend even said it was. All we can say, is you have to come over and try it for yourself. We visted just before Easter so the stores were full of fun chocolate Easter figures. We had to take pictures to show the girls.
Brugge is well know for its Lace. They process some Beautiful Lace. I took some pictures but later I found some Lace that was so pretty with colorful flowers, I can't describe it, But I bought a beautiful lace table topper for my table. It is a cream lace with Yellow sunflowers and White Daisy's. I love it.
So lets look at some pictures!
My favorite pictures are up top. However all the pictures are in a movie below.
